WORDS
Beautiful news - Just had confirmation that a poem I wrote in 2021, has been selected, for the festival of Making, to be added to a poetry book binding workshop. Below, please find my poem 'Lovely Lancashire' and information on how to register for a chance to learn a new skill, in book binding.
LOVELY LANCASHIRE
A place where I grew up
Playing on the cobbles
Amongst the dirt and muck
Waiting for the sunshine
To brighten up my day
Looking for my friends
To dance and sing and play
Forgetting all my cares
Ignoring all my jobs
Waiting for a smile
From all the friendly gobs
I'm swinging on the swing
Feet don't touch the ground
I'm eyeing up the roundabout
It's going round and round

Bind your own book from the selection of poetry on display in this workshop at the Festival of Making, led by artist Ian Halawi.
About this event -
In this workshop, learn to use a simple yet beautiful stab binding technique, traditionally used in Chinese and Japanese bookbinding.
You will be invited to choose a selection of poetry from the display, all submitted by people living in, or with a connection to, Lancashire as part of the Of Earth and Sky project in 2021. Read more about this project below.
Next pick your thread and book cover colour and follow Ian as he leads you through this stab binding technique. Personalise your book further by decorating the cover with a lovely selection of stamps made by the artist Ian Halawi.
