REMEMBER REMEMBER
I am sat here reminiscing on days of old...Around the age of 5yr
I would 'play out' with my elder brother, Pepe. He was actually babysitting me, a young punk around 13/14yr - but I thought I was just one of his gang! They would look after me kindly and teach me how to behave a little older than my years. Bonfire night is a vivid memory of sillyness...Lots of fire crackers and milk bottle rockets involved.
BUT the best thing was sitting motionless, inside old raggy clothes, sat upon a go-cart (made from an old pram) with a scarf over my face, or sometimes a scary mask - to hide that there was an actual human inside. I think perhaps I was of the age that should have been in bed, or indoors at the very least. WELL anyway we would head to the local pub with his mates and ask PENNY FOR THE GUY MR (me hidden in plain site, in the raggedy clothes) to each of the people entering the boozer... some would comment on how realistic the guy looked (me again) LOL and bung us a few coins ...into the hat. If they didn't give anything or where grumpy, I would scary them by jumping up and we would all laugh, usually resulting in said person, swearing, then also donating a few coins into our toffee fund, for me, and firework pot for the big boys.
Such vivid, funny, happy memories! My mum would have been well cross if she had known, I am sure I should have been in bed. Not sure if I ever told her, I probably didn't tell her about the experiments with fireworks either or the garage roof.
Days of sillyness and fun times held in my memory bank of 'naughtyness' and 'experimental' days of my 1960/70's youth. Massive love Feona
PS. please don't be affraid of below link, it is a lovely little snippet of days gone by... it's just not my movie, so Firefox is warning you to open in another window, click the link and enjoy some nostalgia...
